Losing computer data could be very depressing, this is a kind of accident that every computer user may encounter. Well, some of you may say ‘I won’t happen to me, I operate my computer carefully enough’, however the truth is, there are plenty of ‘things’ out there can harm your computer such as hardware faults, critical system errors, virus attacks, mistaken operation, etc, each of them can cause data losing in the computer, the question is, what if such accident really happen to you? What are you gonna do? Data recover technology that available nowadays such as recovery software can not fully recover all losing data, trust me, the best solution to protect your data is to lean how to properly backup your computer.

So, how do I do the backup and what is the best way to do it? Well,  I don’t think the answer is so important, the fact is, the more backup solution you know the better, here I listed a few common but useful backup methods for your reference.

System restore

System Restore is a tool which is available in each Windows OS, it helps you to backup the computer data, and roll back the computer to a previous state. This tool can be very helpful when your computer is experiencing minor faults or errors and is also a very good way to backup computer, but you need to keep two things in mind, one is using System Restore will certainly occupy your disk space, second, System Restore won’t backup personal data but only system files and settings, so you should never rely on it alone. OK, done with the introduction, here is the steps to teach you how to use it.

For Windows XP users

  • Go to Start > All Programs > Accessories > System tools
  • Click on System Restore in the system tool menu.

  • Select Create a restore point and click Next.

  • Name the restore point, or enter a description so that you can easily find it.

  • Click on Create to create the restore point.

For Windows 7 users

The way to use System Restore is a bit different from Windows XP, here are the steps:

  • Go to Start menu of Windows and right-click on Computer. Select Properties.

  • Click on the System Protection link on the left-hand side.

  • Click on the Create button to set a new restore point.

  • Type in a name or description for the restore point.
  • Click Create and it will be done in seconds.
