In the task bar, there are hidden inactive icons in notification area, sometimes some software are uninstalled, there still remain their shadows. So how to completely remove the registry so that we can get rid of those “shadows”? Here operate the steps with me!
First, in the Start menu, right click and select properties. Open the property. Then click Customize to enter custom notification, and here we can set to hide or display icons. Next let’s look at those software we have already removes, icons still there!
Enter into the registry editor, type regedit in Run. In order to delete the useless icons, here we enter into the registry to delete the residual icon information, which needs to be manually deleted.
Because the registry entry is difficult to be found, and here I directly use the search method to find the registry information,
To delete the value of IconStreams and PastIconsStream, we directly search to delete the value of these two keys:
In the registry interface, press ctrl + F, enter IconStreams, start the search. Select the file, and then right-click to edit. Then right-click on each file you selected to edit, empty the contents inside.
After emptying these two registry, click OK to exit.
Press the DEL + ALT + CTRL or right-click the taskbar / Task Manager, open the task manager / processes, end EXPLORER.EXE program, ignore the warning, and press OK. Then you’ll find the task bar disappear.
Then, click the Task Manager “File” / New Task, enter EXPLORER.EXE to resume the task bar, it is best to restart your computer now.
After this step, open the Start menu, and then view the custom notification, the residual icons have been cleared! Note that. registry is vulnerable so it’s better to prepare a registry fix tool in case you damage any registry entry.
PS: If you have unwanted or unused applications, you should also consider completely removing ’em for performance. For example, you can entirely uninstall Bitdefender Antivirus Free Edition this way.
