By doing what’s mentioned in my previous post, I believe you have already made significant improvement on your PC speed, I would like to tell you that, it is not all, there are still several tweaks you can make to speed up your PC performance further. Here I’m going to introduce them to you one by one, some of them may sounds or looks advance, but take it easy, if you can follow the instruction here strictly here will be no difficulty for you to accomplish them.

Check the CPU frequency

The first thing you need to do before starting any performance tweak is to check your CUP, as CUP is the foundation of all the tweaks you gonna make, if your CUP is lower than 1.66 GHz, due to such low configuration, your computer would not be any faster even you done all the tips I provided, and I would suggest you to update the hardware or invest money a better configuration computer. You can right click on My Computer icon, and select System Properties in the appeared menu, and then check the CPU frequency of your computer.

Avoid overheating

Computer users all need to be aware of console overheating problem as it can bring you many troublesome problems and decrease PC performance dramatically. To avoid overheating issue, you’ll need to make sure the fan in the console is working properly, if there is too much dust stuffed in the fan, go clean it immediately. On the other hand, do not put your computer console under a direct sunlight.

Change the power option

In Windows 7, there are 3 power options for different computer usage which include:

• Power Saver: decrease screen brightness and system performance, used for get the most out of the battery.
• Balanced plan: the default power plan for Windows. Provides full performance when the computer is being used, and reduce energy consumption when it is idle
• High Performance plan: Increase screen brightness and system performance in some circumstances.

If your feel like the computer performance is not pleasing, you can switch to the performance plan by clicking the battery icon in the system tray > select High Performance radio button, which will increase your computer performance in some circumstances but also it increase the power consumption.

For Windows XP users. You can access to the power option through clicking battery icon in the tray and then select Adjust Power Properties. And you will be able to select a power plan which is more suitable for your PC circumstances

We have tested our virus removal instructions ourselves in our computer lab. We have several computers, each running different Windows operating systems. Remove search bars in desktop

Desktop search bars usually comes with preinstalled features like MSN Desktop, Google Desktop, these desktop search bar may not be useful for everyone, if you seldom use them or feel like won’t use them anymore, removing them will save a bit of your drive space and ram usage thus speed up the computer in a certain degree. Well if you use these search bar a lot, there will be no need to removing them, but you’d better disable indexing. (detailed instruction please stay tuned for my following pos which will teach you how to improve system performance further and troubleshot annoying PC errors).

Just like uninstalling a standard Windows program, removing desktop search bar is an easy task. For Windows XP, simply reach the Add/Remove program from the Control Panel, or Uninstall a program in Windows 7. In the list you’ll be able to find out the desktop search, select it and then click Remove/Uninstall, follow the given instruction to finish the removal.

Disable unnecessary gadgets

In Windows 7, users can place custimized gadgets anywhere on the desktop, actually these gadgets you placed in the desktop can be very resource-hungry, disabling them can save a portion of your system resources and surely will improve the system performance a little bit. Don’t underestimate this “a little”, if you combine all these performance tips together, many a little could make a mickle.

There are two ways to disable the gadgets, one is right click on a blank spot on your desktop, select Gadgets, and then disable the unwanted ones. Another solution is to disable the whole gadget platform, see the steps below:

• Go to Start > Control Panel, in the Programs and Features section, click Turn Windows features on or off.

• Uncheck the Windows Gadget Platform option in the pop-up window and click OK to confirm.

• Reboot your computer once your finish the operation.

For Windows 7:

If it’s the first time you are customizing Windows 7 appearance settings, you will need to switch Aero off. Yes, it looks nice, but it’s also exceptionally resource-hungry. Here is how you can disable Aero:

• Right-click somewhere on your desktop and go to Personalize.

• Now you can select a less resource-hungry theme, such as Windows 7 Basic or Windows Classic.

• If you want to keep Aero, but still gain some performance, click Window Color in the same window and uncheck the Enable Transparency box. You can also use the Windows XP method described above to adjust Windows 7 for best performance.

For Windows XP users:

• Press the Windows key + the Pause/Break key to open System Properties.
• Go to the Advanced tab.
• Locate the Performance section and click on the Settings button.

• Now select the Adjust for best performance radio button.

• This will make your Windows look very minimalistic and even out of date. If you don’t mind that, then simply enjoy the performance gain. But if you’d still like XP to look more like XP, simply select the Custom radio button and select the visual effect you like.

Most of the computer people love to decorate their computer with cool wallpapers, elaborate screensavers, or nice visual effects like Windows 7 offers. Disable wallpaper and screensaver

For Windows 7 users

• Right click on a empty spot on the desktop, and click Personalize in the appeared menu.

• Select None in the drop-down menu, click OK and its’s done!

For Windows XP users:

• Right click on a blank on the desktop, in the appeared menu, select Properties.

• Click Desktop tab, in the background section, set it as ‘None’.

• Click the Screensaver tab, click the arrow and set it as ‘None’ too.

• After finished these moves, click Apply and then OK.

For Internet Explorer 8 and 9:

1. Open the IE browser of your computer, press Ctrl+Shift+Del
2. In the delete browsing history window, select the checkboxes of the item you want to delete, usually we recommend you to select Temporary Internet Files, Cookies and History

For Firefox 5 and onwards:

1. Open Firefox and go to Tools > Delete History

OK, here is the instruction of how to schedule a disk cleanup in your Windows 7 computer.

• Click Windows Start button, type in ‘task scheduler’ in the search box in the start menu, then press Enter.

• Click Action menu, select Create Basic Task.

• Customize a name and description for this task and click Next.

• Select how often you would like this tool to run, I personally recommend you select monthly.

• Customize the exact time you want disk cleanup to run.

• Click the action tab, select ‘Start a program’, click next.

• In the Program/script section, type in cleanmgr.exe, click next.

For Windows XP users:

• Go to Start > All Program > Accessories > System Tools
• Click Disk Cleanup tool to launch it.

• Select the drive that you want to clean and press Enter key to start the analysis.

• Click to check the junk file type and click OK to clean them all.

For Windows 7 users

• Click Start button, in the search box, type in Disk Cleanup and press Enter

• Select a specific drive you want to clean.
